76: Mr. Blue Sky

please tell us why you had to hide away for so long (so long), where did we go wrong?... Mr. Blue Sky's up there waitin' and today is the day we waited for... hey hey! (ELO)

Such a relief to see the blue blue sky and the warm glowing sun, even if the temps were in single digits all day. (As I'm posting near midnight, it's -5º right now!) This is the view from my deck, near the bird feeders that hang above the spindly snow-laden bush (on the right) featured yesterday.

58: Midwest ocean

The best thing about Ohio is the huge sky. I didn't know it when I got here almost 12 years ago. In fact, I panicked a bit without California mountains on the horizon to give definition to my view. The emptiness above felt lonely.

On the flip side, I complained about being land-locked. I loved the way the Pacific ocean drew me beyond the horizon and into endlessness. In year two or three, I can't remember which, I suddenly realized that when I needed to calm down, I looked up. The sky had become my ocean.

My favorite view is sunset over old, slowly-going-extinct farm houses. Yesterday treated us to glorious orange in the west and subtle pinks and soft purples in the east.
