Stopped by the Coffee Affair where Jon grades papers between picking up kids from lacrosse and soccer. He was completely unfazed as I shot about ten pictures. Not totally happy with the fuzzy edges on his head, but I like the hands. Also, I prefer the b&w version... but he likes color so, this is for Jon.

This picture has such warmth - the light coming in through the windows, the wood, the colors in Jon's sweater and the pillows. He does look intent in his work!
You mentioned him preferring color and you the b&w - my dh and I have had the same exact situation. He *always* prefers color while I often "see" more in a b&w shot.
I prefer the black and white one too! Actually, I left a comment on flickr that this would be a perfect photo for the virtue of diligence! :) I am on the lookout today for that one myself.
This'll be me later tonight, after our dinner party. Except I won't be looking so warm. I'll be bleary-eyed and grumpy, staring at the stack for hours counting down until they're done. But I told the students I'd get 'em back tomorrow. Dammit.
Do you know this is the first time I've 'seen' Jon? He looks like a good teacher. If I walked into a class my response would be positive. I tried to blow it up to see the hands better, but I guess it doesn't work that way with Flickr. You might not like that backlighting in this photo, but try using it behind portrait sometime with fill flash. It can make a really nice effect.
I like this shot too. The warmth of the light is really nice.
Ana, artist student daughter, was looking over my shoulder as I flipped through the 365's. She immediately said "He looks like a professor...that sweater." I said, "He is." She said "I like the colors in that photo." I said "Me too."

He looks very professorial -- and handsome, of course.
The color gives it warmth, I think. He does look like a professor! Hope he likes grading papers better than I do.
He looks so conservative and professorial! I can just imagine you clicking away while he was working. : )
Becky, I have a hunch he doesn't like it any better than you do, or Scrivener does or I do. :) I read on another blog the other day that grading papers sucks out the will to live. I think that must be true. :)
