I made a pumpkin pie with real butternut squash. Then I bought this adorable pumpkin with the intention of cutting it open and dumping its guts into a pie crust... and couldn't bring myself to do it. It continues to sit on my cheery blue table entertaining me.

Does pumpkin pie taste good with butternut squash instead of pumpkin? It sounds delicious. I don't think I could have cut into that cute pumpkin either.
It is perfectly delicious, actually. I love using real squash for pumpkin pie.
I made the squash one night (baked with butter, salt, pepper and brown sugar) and then pureed it the next for pie.
I love the color here, and the shape of the stem. Fun.
