Baby wrens to be!

Baby wrens to be!, originally uploaded by juliecinci.

I can't believe that our wrens laid eggs! Every other year, the nests go unfilled. This year, that industrious pair worked so diligently on the nest that I hoped it really would lead to eggs. My only concern now is that I haven't seen the mother in days. I wonder if she is incubating these eggs or not. Anyone know the habits of Carolina Wrens? We found a great photojournal of nest to fledglings here.

Anyway, here's hoping I have baby wren photos to share in two weeks.

This is an amazing photo! The shallow DOF, the colors, the textures, the composition. Just wonderful!

The shot is just excellent, and the potential for babies is very exciting. Hopeful thoughts here!

Wow, I'm jealous! I want to be able to watch baby birds hatch and grow up!

Waaah. No sign of the mother. I'm in mourning. :(

Oh yay!! It's 4:23 and as I was sitting here typing, I heard a loud whump. I looked up and saw in a blink of an eye, the last feathers and tail of our dear mother wren ducking into the BBQ nest. Phew. I am soooo relieved. I really want her to hatch those babies. What a treat it is to think my window to the world looks out on such things.

Oh, yay, I am so happy to hear that news!

This is a gorgeous photo. Is this the nest in your bbq pit?

Just read comments and see it is in your bbq pit? How fun! We have a wren nest in the rose bush that surrounds our mailbox but it is so dense, I can't see inside the nest. Have fun observing!

Did anyone notice the numbers on cellophane in the upper lefthand corner? I didn't even see it until I posted the photo. I just think it's so cool the way these wrens build their nests out of any material.

There's also a croquet wicket dragged up into the nesting. I have no idea how they lifted it that high! There's also a big branch stikcing out of the BBQ holding the lid up just a half inch or so for easy exit and entry. These little birds blow me away with their skills!

Yes, I did notice the numbers on the cellophane. Very resourceful, those guys!

I was going to ask about the numbers! The detail of this nest is incredible---both the "architexture" of it and your photo.

They're beautiful. Hope we get to see them hatched! I am lol at your comments interspersed here. You are mother wrenning yourself! I did this with a baby martin last year, so I know the symptoms! Drove myself crazy worrying about the baby and if the mama was okay and taking care of her baby.

What a beautiful photo. Not sure The Wrens are exactly the perfect accompaniement to waiting for eggs to hatch, but they're great indie rock nonetheless. (Just to be almost random for the moment.)

Wow, I love the photo (and from the look of the comments I'm not alone)....love the red specks everywhere.

Very nice photo, Julie. A lot of birds lay their eggs over a period of several days but don't sit on them until all are laid. That way they all hatch at the same time. :) These will be fun to watch, I'm sure! Keep us posted.
