If you love those things, then you'll probably love motion shots. When you get your dslr, you'll have to delve into that.
It's good to have an "in" w/ someone with the railroad. Shooting RR's can get a little dicey (at least around here) w/ security. My dad works for a RR but not in a capacity I think would help me get some clearance (he's in IT/programming area).

Yes, I do love everything about transportation in photos. I find myself taking shots on on ramps, at lights, down RR tracks. I want a new camera so much. Hoping that day is soon.
I also find this part of the country so new still, despite 12 years here! It just appeals to me in pictures.
