Jacob is first chair saxophone (began last year as last chair, so he's really improved). What a night! We heard the four high school bands, each increasingly talented. I'm so impressed with our school program. It's a joy to be a part.

Apples to apples to college kids

Noah and two of his friends, and two of Jon's students (Scarlet and Mark) descended on the house Friday night. Noah's crew played X Box all night and the other two (Jon's composition and fiction students) played Apples to Apples with us. If you ever need to feel better about the world, hang out with kids in their 20s.

One more shot of professor Jon (whose "rate your professor" comments were uniformly off the charts - best professor ever, best teacher at Xavier, easy grader... ooops) and Scarlet.

I made a pumpkin pie with real butternut squash. Then I bought this adorable pumpkin with the intention of cutting it open and dumping its guts into a pie crust... and couldn't bring myself to do it. It continues to sit on my cheery blue table entertaining me.
