62: Running waters

Snowfall over night, great view for our morning run at Sharon Woods. I love the way the ice melts and refreezes and melts again, causing the rush over the little waterfalls.

Used the dusk/dawn setting on the camera. Still deciding if I like this effect. What do you think?

61: Itsy-bitsy snowflakes

...sitting on a water spout. Well, really, on the deck railing.

Our first January snow cheered me after days of unrelenting shadow-less grey. Proud of my little Nikon for the quality of its macros (not much of a lens, but it gets the job done).

60: Flying Pig (marathon) Training Starts!

And we're off! Week one of training started yesterday. The Cincinnati marathon is called the "Flying Pig" for reasons I still need to discover. Ran our customary 6-7 miles.

The little "flying pig" below is from beadedhope.org given to me by Joules Evans, breast cancer survivor and marathon running supporter! This particular organization supports women in South Africa who have been been impacted by HIV/AIDS.

59: Customer Service

at the high powered, international business hub: Brave Writer. Can that phone handle it? Can the personnel? 2011 is the year we find out.

I haven't been able to get off the phone for two weeks. Customers and business associates calling all day long, and into the night.

58: Midwest ocean

The best thing about Ohio is the huge sky. I didn't know it when I got here almost 12 years ago. In fact, I panicked a bit without California mountains on the horizon to give definition to my view. The emptiness above felt lonely.

On the flip side, I complained about being land-locked. I loved the way the Pacific ocean drew me beyond the horizon and into endlessness. In year two or three, I can't remember which, I suddenly realized that when I needed to calm down, I looked up. The sky had become my ocean.

My favorite view is sunset over old, slowly-going-extinct farm houses. Yesterday treated us to glorious orange in the west and subtle pinks and soft purples in the east.

57: Jeni's

I've yet to have one of these colorful macaroon ice cream sandwiches, however, I love Jeni's ice cream, which is sublime and weird. Yesterday, I ate Brown Butter Almond Brittle ice cream with Lime Cardamon yogurt. Salty Caramel is their top seller. All visits to Grandview (suburb of Columbus) require a stop at Jeni's. You can find them on High St., too. Original to Columbus.

56: Bedhead Brunch on New Year's Day at Debba's

The hanging comb mobile (compliments of the Dollar Store) made the perfect decor for the couple of bedheads munching on Greg's toast and omelets.
