Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast, originally uploaded by juliecinci.

Tonight was my second and last time to see the big spring musical. It improved, which is hard to believe as it was really good the first time. I tried to snap a shot of Johannah taking a bow with the other student directors, but they moved around too much and all I got were blurry faces on stable bodies. This "Be Our Guest" finale pose lasted a long time as they got the most applause so it's nice and clear. The production is out of control, including wires that fly the Beast into the air during his transformation, rented costumes, moving sets, a two story castle and even a rose that lost petals on cue under the glass.

Hard to believe this is high school. Congratulations Johannah!

Nice picture! I have been amazed at the difference between highschool theatre when I was in highschool and highschool theatre now. At first I thought it was just the performing arts schools, but that is not the case. We have about 4-5 highschools in this area that put on professional quality productions with all the extra you mentioned. Three of these are even taking their shows to compete in Scotland later this spring!

Congratulations Johannah and mom, for having the courage to jump in feet first!!!!

Wow! What a great experience!

I saw Beauty and the Beast in NY, but really---a well done high school production is hard to beat!! :-)

Congrats to Johannah!

(Hey, I noticed a couple of days ago you had a shot of a building named after me....)

It's hard to believe this is high school! What kind of a budget do they get, or do they finance it with ticket sales? the costumes are incredible.

Many high school productions are well-acted, but the costuming and scenery are only so-so, which brings the tone down overall. The Shakespeare plays Hannah participated in were incredibly well-acted, and the scenery and props were great (constructed and painted by talented parents), but the costumes were often cobbled together with what we could get...a stretch when doing a period piece!

Anyway, I'd loved to ahve been there. Kudos to Johannah!

Bravo! I tried taking some stage stuff at The Hobbit, and it didn't work. This shot is fabulous though!

Yeah, high school theatre has definitely upped the set and costume ante since I was in high school. Very elaborate!
