158: Guarding the colors for Lakota West

Caitrin hates the title, hates the picture, but loves her life now that she's a member of the Color Guard. (She so appreciates my editing of her comments.)

Yes, I really like the colours in this pic too. Now, what exactly is a Color Guard?
Glad to know that teens everywhere hate being photographed by parents. Mine do not appreciate their pictures being shared, even when it's only with MY friends, and who will not post incriminating evidence where THEIR friends would see it...

Wow. I wish I had a dollar for all the minutes I've spent watching color guard! Our band memebers tended to poo-poo the color guard until a couple of them decided to take part!! SUCH a great sport, and so fun to watch.

Carolyn, Color Guard is another name for tall flags. The girls also do rifles and sabers. They accompany marching band and perform their own routines while the band marches. it's quite exciting! Johannah was in color guard, Jacob was in marching band and then... nothing. I'm so happy to have another child back in the group!

Laura, same here. CG doesn't get the respect of the band, however, the CG is a group unto itself and they have their own happy culture and friendships so it all works out. I'm so excited to have a reason to go to football games and competitions again!

And Winter Guard, when the entire show is the guard, now THAT is also a tremendous thing (actually, that is what some of the band kids did after band season that sort of changed the way they looked at guard). Fantastic music, awesome body control...guard is just great.

Caitrin is so excited about winter guard! She's totally into the costumes, hair, make up and show-iness. Johannah never did winter guard and got into theater instead. So winter guard will be new to me!

Excited. I thought about you yesterday while I was taking pictures bec I knew you'd "get it," Laura!
