In playing with our camera, Jacob and I tried every setting we could think of for this photo. I ended up using no flash, high saturation and the museum setting (for indoor shots). The first few had too little contrast in the warm tones, so I turned on the TV to catch the reflected blue light to add contrast to the reds, yellows and oranges. It worked! I love the way the reflections on the glass look different from the reflections on the picture frame.

Man, am I impressed! The blue makes the shot really special. You are getting really good!
Don't you just love digital photography? Perfect for trial and error and learning!
I can imagine how the warm tones would've blended together before adding the blue tv color. That blue really makes the picture! I love how you can see the detail on the frame and mantle.
Cool!
And isn't it fun when the kids are interested?! Great photo!
Oh my....that one needs to be framed. I still haven't read my owners manual so don't know anything about settings. My default flash goes off in the house. MUST READ MANUAL.
I am amazed at how much you have learned already, Julie.

That's an absolutely gorgeous picture. I agree with Susan that it should be framed (and I, too, need to read my camera's manual -- I still think it's a point and shoot).

I love the soft fuzzy warm glow of the candles offset by the blue tv glow. Jeff was happy to see that you were using one of his ways of creating blue light.
You postmodern photographer...adding a another color to see the others more clearly!
That was very clever to turn on the TV to get your blue tones! It worked and the picture 'pops' because of it. I am enjoying watching your eye develop.
Okay, can you or Jacob or one of your other handy children come my way and teach me everything you're learning about digital photography? ;-) Lovely photo; worth the effort!
Oh my gosh, Julie. I told myself I wouldn't leave any comments, just take some quick looks, since I'm so short on time. But I have to comment! I love that you turned on the tv to add the blues. That's brilliant!
