Jacob's fall

Jacob's fall, originally uploaded by juliecinci.

I had planned to post some amazing photos from our ski day yesterday, when as I slid down "backstage" (one of the ski runs at Perfect North), Jacob called out "Mom!" I looked up to see him, skis off, left wrist cradled in his right hand.

The next thing I knew, the ski patrol arrived with a tobaggen to take him down the hill. As I stood there watching, I thought, "I can't take a picture of this. That would be heartless." Right at that moment, the patrol member with a delightful European accent said, "If you have a camera, this would make a great picture."

I laughed! "As a matter of fact...." Click. Click, and click! (One more at the bottom of the hill.)

Yes, his wrist is broken. We'll be seeing the orthopedic surgeon today for a full cast. Spent yesterday afternoon in the ER.

Oh, no! The reds on the snow ARE a good constrast, but poor Jacob. (At this point, my kids would have been surprised had I NOT taken a photo!)

Oh wow, that sounds like an adventure that you and Jacob did not really need!

It does make for a great photo though, which I'm sure is no consolation to Jacob.

I'm so sorry. Tell Jacob I'm thinking about him, remembering the last time he needed medical attention! I hope he'll get a positive report from the surgeon. Hugs to you too, mom.

Oh, Ouch!!! Poor guy! So, are you "heartless" or "always prepared"? Kinda funny how the patrol guy was reading your mind! :) Jacob will be glad you took the pictures. Make sure you get shots of his cast. Sorry he's hurt & I hope he heals very quickly!

Sorry that happened, Julie. I hope everything goes well at the orthopedic surgeon's office.

PS: You captured the event spendidly.

The pictures are wonderful, the red and white are just beautiful. Sorry about Jacob, but I agree with everyone else he will glad to have them later.

I couldn't wait to link over here to see what you were talking about and was not prepared for that photo! Poor Jacob. I'm glad that the ski patrol guy suggested taking the picture tho. It's a perfect shot for the day.

It does make for a dramatic photo and documents the main event of the day, unfortuanately. I bet Jacob will be glad you took it. Not many guys get to take the toboggan down the ski slope.

Hope all goes well at the orthopedist. Nathan broke his wrist, as well as Nicole. Everything turned out fine.

I gasped when I saw the picture. You certainly captured "emergency!" Poor Jacob (and Mom)! Hope the pain has subsided some and all goes well at the dr. today.

I would've been having the same internal debate about taking the photo. Glad the patrol member said something and relieved your apprehension. No other shot would've come close in capturing the event (sad and scary as it was!) of the day, though.

Julie! is this the Jacob who got the bee in his ear? I remember because that was the same time my Jacob broke his forearm... and my Jake's biggest regret was that we didn't take any pictures!!!

You have our sympathy! (Our Jake is now up to #5 broken arms, 3 on one side, 2 on the other, between ages 10-15...) Glad you have an English-speaking orthopedic surgeon!!! (assuming you do!!)

Blah! That is just not fun, all the way around. Poor Jacob. : ( On a different sort of note, I'm surprised you were able to ski at all, with such sparse snow!

But the million-dollar question is what Jacob thought of the photo??

I know the medical guy's sense of humor about the picture made a difficult situation a little more bearable.
